How to test wake on lan

Here's a list of things I've found that foul up WoL:.Obviously it doesn't work over wifi.In your BIOS you need to allow PCI (and PCIe) devices to wake the computer.Very few routers will route broadcast packets by default, especially packets that originate from the internet. You can either spend ages googling and eventually find the crazily complicated router config file setting (no way will it be in the web interface, and your router may not even allow it), or, simpler option: use something like Tomato or DD-WRT which will have a WoL tool built into the web interface.Make sure the LED on your network card is still flashing when your computer is 'off'.I don't know how to do this on Windows, but on Linux you have to use ethtool to enable the card to wake up - and set it to wake up on broadcast and magicpackets. Not just magicpackets. It's not an easy thing to debug, and the whole WoL system is stupidly fragile.

This article will explain how to use the Shutdown command to turn off a computer remotely as well as how to use the WakeOnLan standard to wake or boot a PC. This method was tested using a Windows XP Professional computer. Remotely Shutdown a Computer on a LAN.

Just tried boot screen options:Boot Screen Boot From Onboard LAN = EnabledACPI Configuration Wake From Onboard LAN = EnabledGot this message at bootand after shutting down the PC from windows, it powers on by it self endlessly.that's another Issue for eddy to report:)then I did disable 'Boot From Onboard LAN'and Enabled 'PCIE Devices Power On'after exiting BIOS and shutting down and before unpluging the power, wake on LAN seems to work!!!, but once I unplugged the power cord, then plugged it again It does not work at all. That's confusing!!!! Dear Eng Hooda,I had just test Z87 Performance board of wake on LAN function, it can works normally.BIOS:P2.10OS:windows7 64 bit.Wake On Lan tool: MAGPACPlease kindly refer my steps as below to try.1.Load BIOS default. And enter to BIOS AdvancedACPI ConfigurationPCI Device Power onEnable.2.Enter to OS and shutdown system.3.Due to this board have two LAN port also it have two mac address, please make sure have type correct mac address. (it can be checked at motherboard near rear panel and sound chip, or at cmd command line type 'ipconfig /all' to check). If it is not correct mac address please change to the other Lan port or type the other set mac address for try.If problem still remains please provide some picture and test information for us to verify.ThanksASRock TSDEddy.

  • Hi, I was using WoL over internet for some time when it stopped working. After making some tests I've found that when it's on sleep mode I can turn it on, but when it's completely turned off I can't. Also I'd noticed that when I turn off my PC, the LAN port stops blinking (which on sleep mode didn't happen). Because of that I went into BIOS settings and ensure the EuP was disabled to let me.
  • How to use wake on LAN on Windows 10 Wake-on-LAN (WOL) is a great feature of PCs which allows you to wake them up from sleep or shutdown over your local area network or over the Internet. It is like a remote power on button.
