Thank you for your great software for my aging Nikon 4000ED. I have been in the advertising business for 35 yrs. And some of the equipment that I cherish, I love to keep viable! Maybe not so much with my film cameras!
Nikon CoolScan 8000 ED Technical Information This scanner has an infrared lamp for scanning film. If you're using Windows and you've installed a Nikon driver, VueScan's built-in drivers won't conflict with this. If you haven't installed a Windows driver for this scanner, VueScan will automatically install a driver.
I find that the SilverFast software not only compliments my Nikon and Umax scanners, but actually gives me more options than the original software. Your software aids me with the transition from film to digital for some of my old photographs. Especially with the Nikon scanner, the adjustments that can be made at input, are ideal! The more that can be accomplished at input, the less I have to do in post. I have a number of archival images that I love to scan from film to digital. I am grateful that there are companies that can appreciate the quality of older equipment, endorse it (sometimes it's better quality than new) and take it to a higher level. Thank you SilverFast!I am a photographer that appreciates view cameras, quality lenses and quality products.
I can fully appreciate the amount of care and devotion that goes in to the SilverFast products. They make my job easier!axis mundi CONSULTING - We would like to thank you for the super service and we would like to give feedback that we are very satisfied with the SilverFast 8.8 software for the Nikon LS5000.
The application is clearly structured and we have been able to work immediately without great instructions.Roger Trottman - Three days ago I was doing research on methods to digitize about 6.000 35mm slides. Until I found details on the SilverFast product, I had tried the procedures on the info boards with poor results. This is about the 5th time I have re-started this project.
I downloaded the demo version of your SilverFast Ai Studio 8 suite and it took me a few hours to figure out how to navigate the product. Your product was a good match for the Nikon 5000 Super Coolscan I am using. The QuickTime videos were very useful to understand the various settings available in the program. Before I downloaded the demo of your program I had no experience or knowledge of what the SilverFast Ai Studio 8 software was capable of doing. The results from the SilverFast product are exceptional. The scanned results of the program are very good and do not look like copies, many of the slides needed no touchup. Those that did were quick and easy to correct. In my case, I am using Adobe Photoshop for the final corrections. I plan to try the SilverFast Archive Suite 8 to see if it is better than the Photoshop I am using. Thanks for your help in selecting the right solution for organizing my slides.FOTO DIGITAL - We recommend a more powerful scan software such as 'SilverFast', as the included 'Nikon Scan 4.0' is out of the scanner's depth. 'SilverFast' also offers the possibility to calibrate the scanner. The tools for automatic corrections are working properly and contribute to better imaging results. Grain can be effectively reduced by multiple scanning.
The autofocus accomplishes a perfect job for accurately mounted slides and smooth film strips.

Please note that you are using this information at your own risk and that we can't provide support for this. Of course that doesn't mean we'll not answer questions or are not interested in any problems you might encounter. This page is based on a started by the community member Steel Chn whom we thank for this information. We mainly summarized that thread for our German users but to keep things in synch below is an English version also. Building a driver for Nikon Scan 4.03 under Windows Vista 64 bit, Windows 7 64 bit & Windows 8 64 bitTo get started for Windows Vista 32 bit. Install the software on your 64 bit Windows 7 or Windows 8.
Next we need to create a driver for your scanner that is 64 bit compatible. To do so create a new folder anywhere on your system you feel comfortable with. Depending on the scanner model you own copy the two files 'NKScnUSD.dll' and 'Nks1394.inf' or respectively 'NksUSB.inf' which are to be found under 'C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesNikonDriverScan1394' or 'C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesNikonDriverScanUSB' into that folder.
Open 'Nks1394.inf' or respectively 'NksUSB.inf' in a text editor of your choice to replace its contents. To do so click into the text box below and press Ctrl+A followed by Ctrl+C to copy the code. Next enter your text editor and press Ctrl+A followed by Ctrl+V to paste the code into the.inf file. We don't use our scanners on Windows 8 but user feedback tells us that in order to install the driver created above one needs to start Windows 8 in a special mode first. Getting Windows 8 to boot in that mode involves a series of steps of which we provide screen captures below. The screen captures come from a virtual Windows 8 machine and since FireWire devices can't be passed through to that virtual system we won't show the actual driver installation.First get the Windows 8 menu to show. On the settings screen.
There choose the General category from the 'PC settings' list and scroll down all the way to the end of that category to reach the 'Advanced startup' entry as shown. There press the 'Restart now' button.Your system will restart and after a while. On it, then and finally where you'll find yet another Restart button. Press it to and on it press either 7 or F7 on your keyboard to boot Windows 8 with its driver signature enforcement disabled. After booting Windows 8 that way choose Search from the Windows 8 menu,.
Now install your driver as detailed above for Windows 7.This will let you use Nikon Scan 4.03 on the 64 bit versions of Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows Vista with the following Scanners: Nikon Super Coolscan LS-4000 ED, Nikon Super Coolscan LS-5000 ED, Nikon Super Coolscan LS-8000 ED, Nikon Super Coolscan LS-9000 ED, Nikon Coolscan IV (LS-40) and Nikon Coolscan V (LS-50).
